Ray Tracing option unavailable for you in Control? Is it a bug? How to fix it? Lets find out.
Control – Ray Tracing option not available – How to fix or enable for RTX cards
It looks like that a lot of Nvidia RTX graphics card users are facing an issue in Control where the Ray Tracing settings are unavailable for them. The whole Ray Tracing section seems to be appearing completely greyed out with no way of turning it on.
Well, there can be a lot of reasons for this. You don’t have a supported graphics driver or you don’t have a supported OS, you know, the obvious ones. Now here is a list of things that you can do in order to fix this bug, if it is a bug at all, and enable Ray Tracing for Control on your PC:
Check whether you are running the game on DirectX 12 or not. When you first launch Control from the Epic Launcher, you get two options before you can get into the game. The first option is Play DirectX 11 and the second one is Play DirectX 12. Make sure that you select DirectX 12 as you will see clearly written there that Ray Tracing is only available for DirectX 12. If you select DirectX 11 then you won’t be able to turn on Ray Tracing as that section in the settings will remain greyed out for you.
Make sure that your graphics driver is updated. An outdated graphics driver could cause certain bugs or glitches a lot of times. If this bug is related to your present driver then a driver update will most probably fix it. If you are a GTX card user then make sure that you are at least running the Nvidia v425.31 driver as Nvidia added Ray Tracing support to GTX cards via this driver.
Make sure that your windows OS is updated and running DirectX 12. If you are using Windows 10 then it is highly recommended that you update your OS right now if you haven’t done it yet.
