If you disable these services the problem could be solved, but it may have some consequences. Like, if you disable Spooler then you will not be able to print until you re-enable it. Also, you are not sure that if it would resolve your issue.

Additionally, the 100% disk usage issue can also occur if your computer has malware, virus, or any other sort of threat. The very first thing to solve the high disk usage issue is to spot the software or Windows component responsible for the issue and stop it.

Option 1: Disable Windows Search

  • Press Win + X to open Command Prompt.
  • Click on Yes and type “net.exe stop”
  • Press Enter key.

Check if your computer performance has improved. If yes, then you need to disable it permanently. To disable it permanently, type “services.msc” in the Run command box and locate Windows Search option. Now, make a double-click on Properties window and change the Startup Type to disabled. Now, this is the time to hit on Apply button and click OK to save the changes. Now, check the disk usage by going to Task Manager window.

Option 2: Disable Prefetch resources to load pages more quickly.

This is very simple option to try. Open Google Chrome and navigate to Settings. Now, select Show Advanced Settings option followed by clicking on Privacy. Here, make sure that the option “Prefetch resources to load pages more quickly”  is not ticked.

Additionally, users can select Use a prediction service to load pages more quickly option under Privacy and security heading.

Option 3: Update device drivers

If the above method doesn’t resole your issue then you can try updating the outdated drivers installed on your system. Do this with the help of Driver Easy software which is a convenient method without taking any risk.

Option 4: Change permission used by Skype

This method applies for the desktop version of Skype.

  • Close the Skype app and make a right-click on its icon located on the taskbar and click Quit.
  • Click on This PC or My Computer and move to “C:\Program Files (x86\Skype/\Phone\.
  • Now, move to file named as Skype.exe and select Properties.
  • Under Security tab, click on All Application Packages and then select Edit.
  • On the next box that appears to you, click on all Application Packages, and tick the box that says Allow.
  • Hit OK to save the changes.

If this was the main culprit, then your disk space will have reduction in usage percentage.
