Fix for Ethernet Doesn’t Have a Valid IP Configuration Error- The error message “Ethernet doesn’t have an valid IP configuration” appears on the computer screen when the system is not able to catch your IP address from the DHCP server. If this is the case, you will not be able to use the internet on your system because a valid IP address is necessary for a PC to communicate with the router and operate in the web.

Solution 1: Restart the Computer

The error Ethernet Doesn’t Have a Valid IP Configuration can be the reason of Fast Startup feature. To resolve this problem, you need to follow the steps given below to disable Fast Startup:

  1. Press Windows + S key and type Control Panel in the search box. Select the option from the list that appears to open Control Panel window.
  2. Move to Power Options from the Control Panel.
  3. Select the option on the left that says “Choose what the power button does”.
  4. Now, go to Change Settings that are currently unavailable.
  5. Remove the check from the box that says Turn on fast startup (recommended) located on the bottom bat of the window to disable Fast Startup.
  6. Now, hit on Save Changes button.
  7. Restart your computer now.

Solution 2: Locate the Network Adapter Settings

  1. Open Run command box and type “ncpa.cpl” in the input box and click OK.
  2. Make a right-click on the Network Adapter in the Network Connections window and click Properties.
  3. From the Ethernet Properties window, go to Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and hit on Properties.
  4. When the Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties window will appear to you, activate the following options:
    • Obtain an IP Address Automatically
    • Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically

If this doesn’t resolve your problem then you can try set the IP address manually and DNS manually. To do that, follow the given steps:

  1. Open Network and Internet Connections on your computer and go to Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and hit on Properties.
  2. Now, select Use the following IP address and Use the following DNS server addresses. Now fill up IP address as 192.168.1.15 and  DNS server as 8.8.8.8 in the very first box. Hit on OK to save the changes.

Solution 3: Restart the router and check Ethernet cable

After performing the above steps, disable your router or modem and restart the router or modem after an interval of 5 minutes. Now, inspect if your computer has the valid IP configuration. If it still doesn’t work, try using a different Ethernet cable. It that doesn’t help then you may require to use another router.

You can also try reinstall your network adapter as the problem is related to it. Updating your BIOS is also one of the easiest and effective method to resolve this error.
